WILD HORSES OF THE SAN LUIS VALLEY

The San Luis Valley is full of natural wonders. The people here are very proud and do not want to see the Valley destroyed by commercialism. One of the wonders of the Valley is the wildlife. Everything from coyotes, mountain lions, bears, deer, elk, antelope, numerous varieties of birds and fish, and wild horses and burro.

Colorado auctions around the 150 wild horses and burro’s year. This is because in 1971 Congress passed the law named the Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro act. In some parts of the valley you can be driving through and see these wild horses freely roaming the land. This is one of the valleys most cherished natural resources. Colorado rounds up wild horses and burros and adopts them out every other Fridays of each month. Not everyone is pleased by this, but Colorado claims this is to protect the wild horses.
