Saguache, pronounced “Sa-watch”, is the northern gateway to the San Luis Valley in South Central Colorado. The name originates from the Ute Indians and means “Water at the Blue Earth”. Sitting at an elevation of 7800 feet, Saguache is surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo mountain range on the east side and the San Juan range on the west. In relation to other towns in the areas, Salida is 45 miles north and Monte Vista is 35 miles south.
